American Socialism Travels is a project started by our Editorial Board member Mitchell K Jones which urges writers to visit, photograph, and write about sites relevant to the rich history of American socialism and communism. From the standpoint of a personal narrative of the trip, articles should include a historical and theoretical analysis of the location and a contextualization of it to our present struggles as American Marxists. The Midwestern Marx Institute is an American Marxist-Leninist think tank founded in 2020 by Philosophy Professor Carlos L. Garrido and Political Analyst Edward Liger Smith. It operates a website that publishes articles on Marxist philosophy, socialist history, and current events, alongside maintaining an active presence on major platforms under @midwesternmarx.
The Institute runs a Marxist School, offering courses on the history of Marxism, Marxist theory, and philosophy, and produces various shows on YouTube. It also operates the Midwestern Marx Publishing Press, which publishes books and the Journal of American Socialist Studies. Since its founding, the Midwestern Marx Institute has grown into the largest Marxist think tank in the United States, amassing hundreds of millions of views annually and a following of over half a million across its media platforms. The Marxist School has educated thousands of students, and the Institute has collaborated with leading Marxist scholars worldwide. Under the leadership of Carlos L. Garrido, Edward Liger Smith, and Noah Khrachvik, the Institute has been at the forefront of developing American Marxist theory, contributing key theoretical concepts such as the critique of the purity fetish, controlled counter-hegemony, re-proletarianization, the American trajectory, hindsight anti-imperialism, and triple exploitation. It stands as a leading force in Marxist theory within the Anglophone world. |
